English translation

He was arranging a kingly assembly, Playing the backgammon of conversation with everyone. One day, driven by the yearning of a traveler, An Alawite Sayyid found his way to that gathering. When he saw the grandeur and high status of the Sheikh, The thorn of that grandeur pricked his chest. He said, 'I am of the family of the Prophet; This greatness is truly befitting of me. With such high lineage that I possess, Why is this greatness the lot of the Sheikh?' Every thought that entered his mind In front of the Sheikh, was reflected in the Sheikh's heart. The Sheikh is a mirror, but one that is pure, His face free from the rust of veils. He is centered in the middle of the world, Facing the people of the world night and day. Whatever appears from any direction Is reflected in that mirror. If you go before this Sheikh, beware, Keep your mind free of both bad and good thoughts, For whatever your heart is bound to, Will cast its reflection upon the Sheikh's heart. If it is ugly, alas and woe! And if it is good, simplicity is best. Place your tablet blank before the teacher, So that it may receive writing from the teacher. As long as your tablet is preoccupied with other letters, How can it be described by his writing? In short, the Sheikh said to the Alawite: 'O luster of the lamp of the chosen Prophet (Mustafa)! Not through lineage did your grandfather obtain what he attained; No one hastened to closeness with God through lineage. If lineage had made him exalted, Abu Lahab would also have been his partner. I too have not obtained this through lineage, But I have hastened in following him. By divine grace, for Mustafa, I have become annihilated in following him. I have immersed myself in the path of his Sunnah, To the point that I have entirely become him. When my existence reached his, since he had arrived, God chose me for His own belovedness. The Sheikh of Mihna, who in the space of existence No one was greater than him among the people of witnessing, Was pure of the color of pride and hypocrisy, And the reflection of God's majesty shone from him.'
