Section 173 - On Explaining the Secret of the Virtue of Congregational Prayer over Individual Prayer

Original content

English translation

Look at prayer at the time of action, For congregation in it is more excellent. Because from the gathering of the people and the leader, The spiritual state of prayer becomes complete. If one of the congregation, out of pride, Has shortcomings in his prayer due to oversight and distraction, By the judgment of high aspiration, Another's prayer is free from that. And if one lacks the conditions and pillars, And is not without disparity and deficiency, There is another who has performed those acts, And rendered them in a perfect manner. And if one's standing and bowing, Are devoid of the state of humility and submissiveness, Another is so humble, That it is manifest in his conditions. And if one among them is distracted of heart, With futile thoughts, Another is far from such imagination, And is drowned in composure and presence. One single prayer is obtained from them all, Which is perfect in the balance of religion. Even if it is not perfect, it is undoubtedly Far greater in virtue than each individual one. Its effect reaches all of them, Like the effects of the soul's grace upon the body. All find life from that grace, And discover the taste for the etiquette of servitude. Through empathy and cooperation, The taste of each spreads to the others. Before the enlightened of good traits, The transmission of spiritual states is clear.
