English translation

The preface of the book of spiritual poverty is true and correct; It is the black ink from the tip of our Master's pen.

No one like him on the tablet of the noble Has struck the wondrous design of the Naqshbandis.

When spiritual poverty entered the royal robe, It did so through the counsel of Ubaydullah.

He whom his grace made familiar with spiritual poverty, Even if he wore a dervish's cloak, he turned it into a royal gown.

Everyone has a trace of his dervishhood; The robe of mastership is trailing at their feet.

The world in his eyes is a cultivated field; He desires nothing in it but agricultural sowing.

Of that seed due to which Adam, unwillingly, Came from the garden of Paradise into this snare,

He has a thousand farms under cultivation, Which are the provisions for traveling the path to Paradise.

In this field he scatters the seed and grain, And in that world he builds his storehouse.

To his high aspiration, the earth is but a handful of dust; What fear has he of his handful of dust along the path?

From a handful of dust that he sees on the way, How could any dust settle upon his skirt?

Whether it be Caesar or the Emperor of China, They are but gleaners around his harvest.

Wherever he lays the plan for agriculture, By custom, he has the oxen of contentment.

If his high aspiration finds acceptance freely, The Ox of the Earth and the Sky become a pair.

For his threshing, the Matchless Grace Has brought down the Bull from the revolving heaven.

Behold the heavens with the stars in their midst— They are but a sieve of grain from his harvests.

Since you acknowledge his husbandry as supreme, It is as if you are speaking of the Supreme Spirit,

For whether the state is compound or simple, The bounty of his benevolence encompasses all.

Even a blade of grass benefited from his bounty; Its perfection progressed from potentiality to actuality.

What is the perfection of the Supreme Spirit other than this? Compared to his state, what is this praise but a detraction?

The station of the Master is beyond all imagination, And outside the limits of verbal expression.

His heart is an ocean of divine secrets, Of which everything from the Moon to the Fish is but a single drop.

When the billowing ocean comes into motion, How can the drop appear in motion on its own?

When the levels of manifestation subside and the eyes close, And the heart closes its eyes to both worlds,

It sees the One who is not bound by oneness, And who is not in the narrowness of smallness.

Showing His face in the high and the low, He is He; Whether much or little, whatever exists, He is He.

The seeker loses himself in His existence, And closes the eye of illusion to duality.

When the drop becomes non-existent in the ocean, How could there be any possibility of distinguishing it from the ocean?

Happy are those who lay their heads upon his dust, And have bound their hearts and souls to his saddle-strap.

All of them are wealthy from his capital, All are in the light of absolute truth under his shadow.

May his shadow never be far from the world, Lest the eye of time become sightless by his absence.

May the years of the lives of the noble-minded of angelic disposition Be greater in his presence than the cycles of the heavens.

Especially the lives of his renowned sons, Who detail and embody his noble character.

In this rust-colored, gold-plated palace, May they together revive the customs of virtue and generosity.

May the world be the mirror of their desire, And may the light of eternity be manifest to them therein.
