بخش ۲۱ - در بیان غضب که آتش طبع افروختن است و خرمن دین و دنیا سوختن / Section 21 - On the Explanation of Anger, Which is the Kindling of the Fire of Temperament and the Burning of the Harvest of Religion and the World

Original content

English translation

Do not scratch anyone's soul with anger, Do not scrape the word of comfort from the heart. Anger is a scratcher like a saw, Yes, it is a saw, but two-edged. Unless your own mind is scratched first, How can the scratching of another's heart proceed from you? With the fire that you kindle from anger, You first burn your own home and hearth. That which reaches the bystanders Is but the smoke or spark of your fire. Its origin is kindled in your own heart, Whereby your own harvest is burned. Pour the water of forbearance upon that fire, Lest the fire catch others. Anger toward others is dog-like and beastly, And this dog-like and beastly behavior is foolishness. Whoever is aided by intellect, How could they consent to be a beast? The fangs of the swine and the claws of the wolf Became a great calamity for causing harm. Since they have no path to avoid harming, There is no sin in the claws and the fangs. When someone is tormented by a human being, It is as a fangless swine and a clawless wolf. Anger is good if it is for the sake of God, Not from the whisperings of the evil-commanding self. When your anger is for the sake of God, Your eye is separate from double-vision. That is not anger, but the zeal of religion, And it is worthy of praise and applause. Since the stirring of anger is from the evil self, It is the pillow of the demon and the decline of intellect. It is better to free your heart from the demon, And bring anger under your own control.
