شاه باید که چشم باز بود
بر بد و نیک سرفراز بود

چشم او باز باشد از چپ و راست
تا ز عالم برون برد کم و کاست

هر که بیند که او نه راسترو است
دل و جانش به کجروی گرو است

همچو تیر کجش بیندازد
کیش خود را ازو بپردازد

نه که همچون کمان کشد سوی خویش
سازدش جایگه به پهلوی خویش

باید او را دلی ز حلم چو کوه
کش نگیرد ز دادخواه ستوه

دادخواهی اگر ز تنگدلی
نسبت او کند به سنگدلی

نشود از حدیث او بی سنگ
وز جفا گوییش بلند آهنگ

ور جهد از زبان او شرری
که چو آتش کند در او اثری

گو درون را چو آب صافی کن
وآتشش را به آن تلافی کن

ور نریزد بر آتش او آب
زان افتد روز حشر در تب و تاب

English translation

The king must keep his eyes open, And be watchful over good and evil. His eyes must be open to the left and right, To eliminate deficiency and reduction from the world. Whoever he sees who is not a straight-walker, Whose heart and soul are pledged to crookedness, He should cast him aside like a crooked arrow, And rid his path of him. Not pull him towards himself like a bow, And make him a place by his side. He must have a heart of forbearance like a mountain, That does not grow weary of the seeker of justice. If a seeker of justice, out of distress, Attributes hard-heartedness to him, He should not lose his gravity from his speech, Nor raise his voice at his harsh words. And if a spark leaps from his tongue, Which acts like fire upon him, Tell him: make your inner self like pure water, And quench his fire with it. And if he does not pour water on his fire, From that he will fall into fever and agitation on the Day of Resurrection.
