English translation

At night, Intellect, that sweet-spoken advisor, Raised a voice of reproach, like a compassionate friend, Saying: 'O Jami, how long will you engage in futile thoughts? How long will you wear down this unwearied pen? He who is not victorious over the realm of eternity— Even if he existed yesterday, today he is no more. Do not lose the thread of your ultimate purpose; Speak less praise of a non-existent king.' I said: 'O source of wisdom, On whom the thought of eloquent speech is finalized, My intent in this praise is a different King, Whose crown of fortune is now upon His head. Seven realms are subjugated to His command, Seven seas are but a drop of His bounty. It is better to describe the chosen ones in secret rather than openly, May the state of that mystic be pure who said: "It is far better that the description of beloveds Be spoken in the guise of others." Indeed, not everyone is a confidant of this mystery, And this door is not open to the face of every confidant.
