بخش ۶۱ - عقد هژدهم در رضا که گره کراهت از دل گشادن است و تلخی ها را چاشنی شیرین دادن / Section 61 - The Eighteenth Knot: On Contentment (Rida), Which is Untying the Knot of Aversion from the Heart, and Giving a Sweet Seasoning to Bitterness

Original content

English translation

O you who in this narrow arena of existence, Are caught in the collar of sorrow and joy, At times pleased by the revolution of the heavens, At times wounded and filled with anger. Be cheerful like a blooming rose, How long will you draw your face together like a tight bud? You are not the ocean, why all this lamentation? Why is your face so wrinkled by the wind of passing desire? You are not a mountain, why do you make a clamor, Repeating back whatever is said to you? Just like a harp, you are silent without a plectrum's stroke, But when the stroke arrives, you break out in a cry. The stroke on the harp is meant for joy, It is a wonder that you are saddened by it! Be slain by the dagger of self-discipline, Be content with whatever ascetic trial comes your way. The ultimate goal of that path Is nothing other than 'We are well-pleased with the decree of God.' The elevator of suffering in spiritual stations is contentment (Rida), The opener of the treasure of miracles is contentment. Without contentment, do not seek the garden of Ridwan (Paradise), Do not seek the bounty of the spring of life. Make bitter things sweet to your heart, Make the swallowing of it a custom of joy. Receive the arrowhead of destiny upon your soul, Do not wrinkle your brow like a defensive shield. If a many-toothed saw reaches your head, Do not distinguish it from a comb. Rather, in the eyes of the aware heart, It is nothing but the battlements of the crown of honor. And if the hand of the world's injustice turns your back blue With its slaps, Deem it a herald of good fortune, Like the lotus flower in the garden of hope. And if the sky places a fiery brand upon your soul With the spark of the torch of love, Know it to be, from the nurturing of eternal grace, A fresher tulip in the desert of hope. Smell nothing but the scent of goodness from the branch, Even if its fruit-bearing is meager. Do not look at the bitterness of the fruit or its blemish, Eat from this garden as though it were its sweet apple. Untie the knot from your heart like a reed-flute, How long will you sit bound by knots? Endure a little pain in untying the knot, So that a sweet breath may issue from you. The affairs of the world are knot upon knot, Due to these desires that are hidden within you. Once you sever your attachment to desires, You will no longer bind yourself through caprice. The bonds of time will become your liberation, And the movement of the heavens will conform to your will. Whoever is free from personal desires, Disappointment will never leave a scar upon him. He will have no desire in this narrow cage, Except for that which God wills, and nothing else. Whatever comes to him of binding or releasing, Will, in all cases, be his very desire. His heart will be made joyful by everything, And sorrow and grief will rarely approach his heart. Despite all his servitude, he lives free; In the midst of a hundred griefs and pains, he lives joyous. No harm will ever reach him, Nor any affliction from Him who approves of suffering. No occupation will veil his awareness, And no bitterness will make him sour-faced. In injury, he sees nothing but comfort, And in avarice, he sees the very essence of generosity. Whatever suffering and calamity comes his way, He faces each and every one with contentment (Rida). You too, O negligent one, be part of this caravan; Keep the foot of your heart bound to this chain. You are a sinner, seek the prize of forgiveness, So that you may lay your hand upon the hem of joy. When you obtain the thread of pardon through forgiveness, Use this thread to mend the tear in your faith. Though this prize is a pleasant reward, It is not permitted for you to halt at this prize. Step out of this narrow space, And ride your steed toward the realm of Contentment (Rida). For the pen of forgiveness that does not bear the mark of Ridwan Is a script that proves distance and wrath.
