English translation

O you whose heart has no desire for selflessness, Nor any movement of forward-thinking (prudence). Sometimes you place in the dwelling, sometimes in the garden, The seat of security and the cradle of leisure. You have made the flower of the heart's abode common, From you to the realm of the heart, there are a hundred stages. Look at the heavens, how unjust is its art! Look at death, how destructive is its foundation! The former is bent on malice with its unjust craft, And the latter has laid an ambush with its foundation-destroying power. You, in your heedlessness, are untroubled by all, Treading the path of playfulness and desire. If there were a verse of fear in your heart, And a lesson of wisdom within you, It would be better than eating and drinking without fear, And resting in the ranks of the foolish. Remember when death approaches, The matter will become long and arduous for you due to death. You will pack your belongings from your adorned house, You will place your foot on the washing board from the head of the throne. From the top of the board they will carry you toward the dust, And from your high station to that dark pit. The sword of fate will cut you off from all, Underneath the dust, you remain, and your deeds. Remember when, by the sound of the Trumpet, The split of the grave will open upon your body. Like a tulip, you will emerge from the shroud, With a heart drenched in blood and a naked body. The radiance of the sun will shine upon your crown, You will be drowned in sweat from that radiance. Remember that on that momentous day, The scrolls of deeds will go flying from left and right. The scroll will come to one from the right side, And to the other from the left, full and without shortage or excess. Remember when they set up the scales, And display the pans of your good and evil deeds. One of those two pans will outweigh the other, And the state of each pan will be altered. Remember when you set foot on the Sirat bridge, You will go either in grief or in joy. Either gravity will drag you toward Hell, Or you will cross over it lightly like a breeze. Remember when suddenly there appears Before your face, all at once, two paths. A path of the kind that destiny has written for you, It will lead you either to Hell or to Heaven. Remember when it takes away the senses of the crowd, The awe of the cry: 'Separate yourselves today!' The criminals will carry the burden of distress, While the intimates will take the path of joy. There are a hundred more of such terrifying events, Yet you are so unaware and heedless of faith. Tell me, what is all this delusion about? And why this distance from the path of the wise? If your delusion is in your palace and mansion, The pleasantness of your dwelling and the decoration of your place, See how Adam, from such a paradise of houris, Fell far away with a single temptation. And if your delusion is in knowledge and perfection, Or in treasures of gold and abundance of wealth, Arise, open the scroll, and from the Quran Read the story of Balaam and Korah. And if your delusion is in origin and lineage, The honor of the grandfather and the generosity of the father, Listen to the story of Noah and his son, When the flood of grief came upon his head. And if it is in obedience and devotion, The source of your lesson is Iblis. And if it is in meeting the righteous, Which is the looking-spot of the faithful, For whoever did not have a face towards improvement, Beholding the face of the Prophet was of no benefit. Withdraw the foot of resolve from the trap of delusion, Do not drink the wine of heedlessness from the cup of delusion. There is no deed better than fearing God; Strive and fulfill the duty of fearing God. Whoever sat in the ship of this fear, No one's fear broke their ship.
