Section 72 - The Fifth Sage Offering Condolences

Original content

English translation

When the fourth sage said what he had to say, this flower blossomed from the fifth's garden of the heart, saying: O rose-bush of the imperial garden, whose skirt has been left empty of its flower. If the flower formed but a weak bond, may you find contentment in his memory. One whose heart's fruit has slipped from his grasp, the branch of whose joy has broken through the loss of a flower, by the counsel of sages becomes steadfast in patience, and reason lays before him the path of consolation. This consolation reached you from God; to your palate this morsel came from that table. Your heart is bright with the light of His inspiration; take enjoyment from the bounty of His gift. When the sages grasped this point, they turned their faces away from consoling you. When the sun rises from the east, what light can the house-illuminating torch give? May Alexander's soul rejoice through you; may his spirit flourish in the spirit of paradise. May the honor of both worlds be your surety, fair praise and abundant reward.
