English translation

O you through whom the rank of obedience has been breached, And the thread of the congregation has been left empty of you! Since the cotton of negligence has stopped your ears, The cry of the muezzin did you no good. His shout did not diminish your sleep, His standing did not bend your stature. You had no inclination for prayer in youth; What is the use of a bent back in old age? Your back is bent like a prayer niche, Yet your face has not turned toward the Qiblah. The five prayers are better than five treasures; It is better that through these five you weigh treasures. For your sake, fifty prayers became five, Yet your nature has found hardship in these five. Clench your fist tightly upon these five, Tear the claw of Iblis piece by piece. If you do not afflict him with your fist, How will you bear the power of his grip? Have the heart of a lion, make your grip strong from these five, Tear up the branch of desire from its very roots. The root of the branch of desire will not weaken, Unless you first water it with purification. Wash your hands in order to cling to goodness, And turn your face away from the illusion of looking to others. Place a crown upon your head from the palm of the Anointer, Once your feet are washed, step onto the path of Ascension. So that when you find your way to the Ascension, The hand of the devils shall be cut short from you. At the time of retribution for their retreat, Let the steps of your Ascension serve as their gallows. Your religion has no pillar other than prayer; Stand tall like a pillar for its establishment. At that moment when your back is bent in obedience, It is a straight pillar for this tent. Everywhere has been made a mosque of stone and soil for you, The earth has become for you like pure water. So that the path of obedience may be easy for you, And your nature may not be terrified by it. Yet you, out of laziness and ignorance, Are left stuck in the water and mud like donkeys. Pull the foot of hope out of the clay of nature, Keep not the eye of intellect on gold and adornment. Let your adornment be the belt of servitude, And your crown be the lowering of your head in prostration. The past of your life is pledged to destruction, And who knows who owns the future state? The witness of your time is this very hour; The most beautiful ornament for it is obedience. Shame on you, for in high and low, Everything that exists offers Him prostrations of obedience. Yet you turn away from His prostration; You had better withdraw your step from this habit. The high Empyrean has tucked up its skirt of etiquette, Sitting upon the seat of honor at the door of obedience. The celestial sphere wears a blue robe, Girding its waist with Gemini for service. Sewn from night until dawn in bowing, The eyes of the stars are cast down to the earth of humility. The rosary of the Pleiades hangs from its hand, The tears of the stars are shed at dawn. The moon has struck the drum of love at His door, The sun has rubbed its face on the dust of His path. The movement of the elements toward below and above Is due to His attraction on the chain of yearning. It is the work of inanimate matter, for the sake of the Pure Living, To sit in obedience upon the prayer mat of earth. The description of plants is standing upright At the door of the Sustainer of the world perpetually. The form of the animal is straight in bowing, That is why its back is forever bent. And if it had no inclination for prostration, why Does it lower its head to the ground while grazing? Arise and prepare yourself for worship, Combine these several actions in prayer, So that you may escape outward distraction, And find your way to inward composure, Sitting collected in the station of Presence, Unaware of yourself and your own existence.
