Original content

English translation

O you who sleep in the sanctuary of Yathrib (Medina), Rise, for the East and West have fallen into ruin. We are utterly helpless; draw out from your cloak A hand, and show us a stroke of rescue. Cause these times to repent of their rebellion, Redeem Islam from its state of misery. Bring down the cradle of the Messiah from heaven, Boldly raise the banner of the Mahdi to the sky. Place the baggage of the Antichrist (Dajjal) on his donkey, Send him heading toward the wilderness of non-existence. Wrest the crown of sovereignty from the heads of the vile, Withdraw the skirt of fortune from the weak. Cast down the laggards from the sanctuary, Seek justice for the oppressed from the oppressor. The pen of the mufti, which like a finger of greed Has been stretched out to snatch a morsel— Draw the hand of punishment and break it, Shatter it like a reed pen down to its nail. The loquacious preacher who is bound by baseness, Yet has made his station on the pulpit high— Since his discourse of the Sharia is not grand, Shatter his pulpit over his head. Lay a fresh foundation for the monastery, Cast the gear of the tavern out the gate. Show the path of the Sunnah to the innovators, Open the door of honor to the recluses. Tear the cloak of hypocrisy into a hundred pieces, Banish the deceitful soul from the body. Set fire to the harvest of Iblis, Break the beads of the rosary of deception. Your treasure has remained hidden in the earth for too long; Your light has remained absent from the world for too long. The radiance of your face, which is the sun, Used to illuminate the realm of religion. When the lightning of your separation became world-consuming, The torch of your companions became the night-illuminator. When the heavens extinguished their torch, It turned the morning of guidance into a pitch-black night. The darkness of innovation engulfed the entire world; Indeed, the world wore the garments of mourning. Would that from the zenith of your ascension a return should occur, And the light of your beauty should dawn once again. The eyes of the world would be brightened by you, And the ash-pit of the universe would become a rose garden through you. The blessed would raise their banners through you, While the dark-hearted would retreat into non-existence. Jami, because he is your devotee, Is captivated by you, even without having seen your face. If your life-giving lips should command, He will lay his head at your feet and surrender his life.
