English translation
After that, the bird of His manifestation fluttered its wings, From the spirits into the realm of imaginal forms. And from His imaginal realm, its passage fell into sensory perception, Through Him, the copper of sense acquired the luster of gold. He inscribed the nine heavens upon the page of sense, Each heaven took up its perpetual orbit. Beneath them, of water, clay, fire, and wind, He laid down the beginning of the four elements. He constructed therein, for the sake of prosperity, A three-legged throne from the kingdoms of nature. That fortunate soul, from that exalted throne, Cast the eye of insight to the left and right. He saw and knew that the Existent is One, In all, the witness and the witnessed is One. He is the one manifest in the form of Layla, He is the one looking through the eyes of Majnun. Emerging from the shirt of Joseph, His fragrance giving sight to Jacob. Whatever is not Him is neither kernel nor shell; All are nothing; it is only He who is He. He is a deep ocean full of the water of life, Surging from all directions. Filled with air, they call it the cup of the bubble; In the air, they call it the canopy of the cloud. Poured into the oyster shell, it is the spring rain; When solidified, it is the rolling pearl. The Named is one when counted, Though His names exceed a thousand. That which remains established in the Unity of the Essence, Cannot be divided in two by two names. Let the eye become single, open the eye that sees the One, And do not incline toward division because of two names. See the One in whom knowledge and manifestation are lost, And the name and mark of both worlds are lost in Him. In all things, in the quality of oneness, Remaining hidden by the very intensity of His manifestation. If, hypothetically, from all the essences of the world, That light remained hidden for a single moment, All essences would return to non-existence, And from non-existence, they would become aware of this secret. The eye of their witnessing would become sharp, And they would be drowned in the ocean of existence. O you whose hearts are asleep in this dormitory, Dispersed and ungathered like the distracted-hearted, Under this indigo veil of months and years, Remaining in the separation of sleep and fantasy. The puppets that are behind this curtain, Who display themselves in this manner from this curtain, Though they are very alluring and coquettish, They are the veil of the unity of the puppeteer. All this puppetry and puppet-making, And this playing of puppets in a hundred branches, Is nothing but in the sight of the sleepy-eyed, A manifest phantom without actual existence. How long will you sit content with a phantom? Lo and behold, rub your eyes well! Perhaps when you awake from this sleep, You will tear through the veil of illusion. Your eye of witnessing will become sharp-sighted, And the secret of existence will be revealed to you. You will see a Unity free of duality, Manifest from the garment of 'I' and 'you'. A pure being, free from any name and trace, Higher than the degree of knowledge and manifestation. Immanent in all, without the illusion of incarnation, An immanence beyond the grasp of intellects. And devoid of all, without the defect of decline, Unchanging from state to state. His first manifestation from the Presence of the Essence, Was upon Himself, through Names and Attributes. When the pure Essence, through attributes and qualities, Attained stability in the realm of knowledge, He saw in Himself all the more and the less, These became the realities of the forms of the universe. And those realities cast reflections from within, Raising the banner of the knowledge of the multiplicity of essences. Through every reflection in the mirror of the Essence, The single Essence became an essence among the essences of entities. First, from the repetition of reflections, The spirits and souls emerged, level by level.
