Original content

English translation

The leader of the host of warriors, Ghazan, Charging against the enemies of the faith, One day made the resolve to hunt from the city, And on his way, his path happened upon a village. Unjustly, an unworthy soldier took A bag of straw from a poor peasant. The poor villager sought justice from the king, Who commanded the execution of the soldier. The wealth-amassing minister said to the king, Taught to offer a thousand excuses for every oppression: 'O Emperor, for a mere handful of straw, Do not spill the blood of your army through execution!' The king said, 'O you who are weak in the matter of justice! If I do not shed blood for his straw, When he takes the straw, he will want barley, And he will diminish the peasant's life for barley. And if I excuse him for barley as well, He will use force against him for wheat. And if he escapes punishment for wheat, He will covet the homes of the people. When fire falls upon the door of a house, One must quench it manfully with water. For once it goes from the door to the roof, How can anyone succeed in extinguishing it?' Then he ordered the army To gather a harvest of straw on the path, To make a place for the oppressor on top of the harvest, And to set fire to that pile of straw. When fire fell upon that harvest, The world was illuminated by its glow. The darkness of tyranny departed from the world, The soul of the oppressor suffered diminution and destruction. The banner of the light of justice was raised, Lifting its head to the nine green vaults of heaven.
