پهلوانی ز پر دلان عجم
می زد اندر طواف کعبه قدم

دید گریان مخنثی بر خاک
روی بنهاده پیرهن زده چاک

نوحه ای برگرفته عالم سوز
کای گنه بخش معذرت آموز

از گنه گرچه کوه البرزم
به کمال کرم بیامرزم

پهلوان را بسوخت دل گفتا
کای خداوند مکه و بطحا

لطف کن داد این مخنث ده
یا گناهش به گردن من نه

ور نه از بیم تو بخواهد مرد
داغ حرمان به گور خواهد برد

گر چنین پهلوان نباشد یافت
روی از همرهان نشاید تافت

هر که یابی ز طور او بویی
کش بود جذب حق سر مویی

رشته صحبتش ز کف مگذار
زانکه موییست در رسن بسیار

هر که تنها رود چو آن غوری
باز گردد به درد و رنجوری

English translation

A champion from among the brave of Persia Was pacing in circumambulation of the Kaaba. He saw an effeminate man weeping on the dust, His face laid low, his shirt torn open in grief. He had raised a world-burning lament: 'O Forgiver of sins, Instructor of apologies! Though in my sins I am as the Alborz mountain, Forgive me through the perfection of Your generosity.' The champion's heart burned with pity, and he said: 'O Lord of Mecca and Batha! Show grace, and grant justice to this effeminate man, Or place his sins upon my neck. Otherwise, he is about to die from fear of You, And will carry the scar of deprivation to the grave.' If such a champion is not to be found, One should not turn away from companions. Whomever you find with a trace of his character, Who has even a hair's breadth of divine attraction, Do not let the thread of his companionship slip from your hand, For a single hair in a rope counts for much. Whoever travels alone, like that Ghouri, Will return in pain and affliction.
