Section 67 - The Supplication of Sheikh Abu Ali Daqqaq, Sanctified be His Secret, Atop the Pulpit

Original content

English translation

The one slain by love, Abu Ali Daqqaq, Who was unique in the way of loving, One day, this pain burst forth from his heart, He spoke in supplication on the pulpit: 'O Lord of heaven and earth, Neither space is devoid of Thee, nor the dweller. Thou art manifest in the high and the low, To put it briefly, whatever exists is Thou. I have boasted of Thee to the people, And uttered many exaggerations. On the Day of Resurrection, when Thou bringest me back to life, Do not make me ashamed before the people. If Thou do not deem me worthy of Thyself, Do not strip the Sufi robe from my body. For whether I am a believer or a pagan, I have no patience to live without the attire of the Sufis. Put a leather water-skin and a staff in my hand, And let me wander in the wildernesses of Hell, So that in every valley I turn to, I may raise a soul-melting lamentation. Upon myself, for various reasons, I shall pour tears from my eyes and blood from my heart. Since there is no decree for my proximity, I shall nourish my soul with the lament of deprivation.'
