بخش ۳۵ - حکایت آن فرو رفته به چاه جاه که از دست دوک ریسی رشته عنایتش به چنگ افتاد و کمند نجات او گشت / Section 35 - The Tale of Him Who Was Plunged into the Well of Status, and from the Hand of a Spinner, the Thread of Grace Came to His Grasp and Became His Lasso of Salvation

Original content

English translation

A minister was passing along the way like a king, surrounded by a retinue of pomp and status. Around him circled those with jewel-studded belts, and his entourage marshaled high-born nobles. Beholding his grandeur was like wine; the eyes of the onlookers were intoxicated by the sight. Whoever gazed upon that fortune and glory cried out, 'Who is this? Who is this?' A sharp-tongued woman was present there; she said, 'How long will you cry, "Who is this, after all?" He is one driven from the sanctuary of proximity to God, who has taken a place in the earthly parade. Deceived by the trickery of the world, he is afflicted by this ornament and beauty. Beneath this heavily curved and twisted dome, he has remained deprived of everything, left with nothing.' That murmur reached the ear of the minister, who possessed an admonition-accepting heart in his breast. Her arrow struck the target; his mountain of pride was captured. He abandoned all the apparatus of the ministry and took the path of pilgrimage to the Sanctuary. He remained for as long as he could in that pure sanctuary, residing with a pure heart among the pure. Oh, how blessed is that divine attraction which suddenly arrives, and whose wound strikes an aware heart! He who is touched by divine attraction is delivered from self, and is freed from the good and bad of the intellect. He makes his dwelling in the Kaaba of hope and turns his face toward the eternal Qiblah.
