چون زلیخا ز مه کنعانی
ماند در دایره حیرانی
بازوی عشق بر او زور آورد
تلخی هجر در او شور آورد
کردش از انجمن پیدایی
جای در زاویه تنهایی
شد حجاب از نظر اصحابش
پرده «غلقت الابوابش »
دامن عصمتشان کرد رها
میل «همت به و هم بها»
شوق بستد ز کف هر دو زمام
هر دو گشتند ز هم طالب کام
ناگهان جست زلیخا از جای
از سر تخت طرب پرده ربای
تا شود مانع دیدار کسی
پرده پوشید به رخسار کسی
یوسفش گفت به صد گونه شگفت
که چه چیز است پس پرده نهفت
گفت دارم صنمی از زر ناب
پای تا سر گهر و لعل خوشاب
سالها شد که هوادار ویم
روی بر خاک پرستار ویم
شرمم آید که پس از چندین سال
بیندم فاش درین ناخوش حال
گفت یوسف که نه قاصر نظرم
من بدین شرم سزاوارترم
تو ازین پیکر بی نفع و ضرر
که خود آراستی از گوهر و زر
مانده ای روی خجالت در پیش
دیده می بندیش از دیدن خویش
من ازان پاک که نفع و ضر ازوست
بحر و کان پر زر و پر گوهر ازوست
چون نباشم خجل و شرمنده
سر تشویر به پیش افکنده
این سخن گفت و به در روی نهاد
بر زلیخا در حرمان بگشاد
English translation
When Zulaykha, because of the Moon of Canaan, Was left bewildered in the circle of perplexity, The arm of love exerted power over her, And the bitterness of separation brought tumult within her. It drew her out from public gatherings To seek refuge in the corner of solitude. A veil was drawn before the eyes of her companions, And the curtain of 'She closed the doors' was hung. The skirt of their chastity was released, By the inclination of 'She desired him, and he would have desired her'. Ardent desire snatched the reins from the hands of both, And both became seekers of gratification from one another. Suddenly Zulaykha leapt up from her place, From the throne of joy, snatching a curtain, To prevent anyone from seeing, She covered the face of someone with a veil. Joseph said to her in a hundred kinds of wonder: 'What is this thing hidden behind the curtain?' She said: 'I have an idol of pure gold, Adorned from head to toe with gems and radiant rubies. For years I have been its devotee, And have rubbed my face on the dust as its worshiper. I feel ashamed that after so many years, It should see me openly in this improper state.' Joseph said: 'Since my vision is not limited, I am far more deserving of such shame! You, before this lifeless figure of no benefit or harm, Which you yourself decorated with gems and gold, Stand with a face of shame, And close its eyes from seeing yourself. While I, before that Pure One from whom comes all benefit and harm, And by Whom the seas and mines are filled with gold and gems, How should I not be embarrassed and ashamed, Casting down my head in deep confusion?' He spoke these words and turned toward the door, Opening the door of deprivation to Zulaykha.
