Section 28 - The Tale of Solomon, Peace Be Upon Him, and Bilqis, Who Spoke from the Position of Fairness

Original content

English translation

Solomon and Bilqis were conversing One day, revealing their inner secrets. The hearts of both were set upon fairness, Their minds clear of the color of arrogance. Solomon, the king of faith, spoke first: 'Though the seal of absolute kingdom is mine, No one enters my door day or night Unless I first look at his hand, To see what gift he brings to hand That would increase his honor and dignity before me.' Thereupon, Bilqis, from her hidden thoughts, Breathed a word and spoke this point of her own condition: 'No youth in the world passes before me But that my eye looks upon him with longing. It enters my heart: "Would that this youth Were the companion of my fragile soul?"' This is the state of good-natured women; Of bad-tempered women, one should not even speak. Master Ferdowsi, whose wisdom you well know, Has a harsh curse even upon a good woman: 'How can a bad-natured woman be of good ways? Before the righteous, she deserves to be cursed.'
