بخش ۳۲ - حکایت آن مرید گرم رو که به فرموده پیر پخته کار در تنور فروزان نشست و از تاب آتش یک موی بر اندام وی کج نگشت / Section 32 - The Tale of That Ardent Disciple Who, by the Order of the Experienced Master, Sat in the Blazing Oven, and Not a Single Hair on His Body Was Singed by the Heat of the Fire

Original content

English translation

A sincere seeker was seized by the grief of night-vigil; At dawn, he held the hand of a spiritual master. He made a lasso of the belt of his service, For the sake of ascending to exalted spiritual stations. One day, the master was breathing of divine gnosis, Striking the ball of secrets with the polo-stick of eloquence. The listeners all sat with heads bowed low, Carried out of themselves through the gateway of their ears. That sincere seeker came into his presence, saying: 'At your bidding, O fountain of light, All the firewood, dry and wet, has been burnt, Until a wondrous oven has been set ablaze. What is the task after this, and what is your command? What is that which is hidden in your mind?' The master was deeply engaged in speaking, And did not breathe a single word in reply. He repeated his question two or three times, Until the master cried out: 'O persistent prompter! How long will you importune us like this? Go and sit inside that blazing fire!' Again, that old master, an ocean of purity, Surged with the investigation of truth. When the waves of that ocean finally subsided, He remembered the state of his disciple. He said: 'Arise, for that master of rare devotion Has made his home inside the blazing fire; For his heart's bond with me is not a trivial thing, Such that he would think of disobeying my command.' They found him, like gold of pure assay, Having settled calmly within the burning fire. The flames were leaping around him from all sides, Yet not a single hair on his body was bent.
