آن عرابی چون شد اشتر در شتاب
از شتر افتاد چشمی مست خواب

از سبکباری شتر چون یاریی
دید کرد آغاز خوش رفتاریی

چون عرابی بامداد از خواب خاست
پی نبرد اصلا که آن اشتر کجاست

گفت واویلا که گم گشت اشترم
ماند خاطر از خیال او پرم

کاش با او گشتمی من نیز گم
تا نرفتی بر سرم این اشتلم

هر کجا او رفت با او رفتمی
تا ازین دوری به یکسو رفتمی

هر که آن گم گشته را وایافتی
با من آواره یکجا یافتی

English translation

When that Bedouin's camel hastened in speed, He fell off the camel, his eyes drunk with sleep. Finding relief in being lightened of its load, the camel began to travel gracefully and fast. When the Bedouin woke up in the morning, he had absolutely no trace of where the camel was. He wailed, 'Alas, my camel is lost, and my mind is consumed by thoughts of it! Would that I too had been lost with it, so that this calamity would not have befallen me. Wherever it went, I would have gone with it, so that I would be rid of this painful distance. Whoever found that lost beast would have found me, the wanderer, right there with it.'
