بخش ۳۷ - حکایت آن بد سرشت که به صاحب عباد نامه نوشت که فلان مالدار مرده است و از وی مال خطیر مانده و بجز یک طفل صغیر وارثی ندارد و جواب نوشتن صاحب عباد به وی / Section 37 - The Tale of That Evil-Natured Man Who Wrote a Letter to Saheb ibn Abbad That a Certain Wealthy Man Has Died and Left Vast Wealth, with No Heir Except a Small Child, and the Reply Written by Saheb ibn Abbad to Him

Original content

English translation

Ibn Abbad, that one free from malice, The friend of God's servants and companion of the devout, His name is the ornament of the scroll of generosity, And one like him is rare among this group. Toward him, a slanderer of evil nature, Wrote a scroll in malicious backbiting, 'A certain man, who in wealth was like Korah, Has departed from this upside-down abode. The sole heir to all of his wealth Is a small, young child, and nothing more.' His motive was that the ruler might stretch forth his hand, And seize whatever wealth there is, So that he might also lick a bowl, Or spin some thread upon this spindle. That generous man of the age drew his pen, And wrote these letters on the back of the scroll: 'May that traveler from this abode of hope Be joined with eternal mercy. May his child be safe from the calamities of time, And nurtured with beautiful growth. May his wealth also, day by day, Be in increase through victorious fortune. And as for the one who revealed this slander, And claimed to be acting in our interest, May his heart be empty of joy and his palm of coin, And may he forever be wretched and forlorn.'
