بخش ۲۳ - حکایت آن پادشاه مریض که از دست دو طبیب نبض او به اعتدال نمی جست و تا قاروره وجود یکی نشکست مزاج وی از علاج دیگری به صحت نپیوست / Section 23 - The Tale of That Sick King Whose Pulse Did Not Find Equilibrium at the Hands of Two Physicians, and Until the Vessel of the Existence of One Was Broken, His Temperament Did Not Restore to Health through the Remedy of the Other

Original content

English translation

That king had two physicians by his bedside, Both wise, learned, and generous. Their lips were companions to the breath of Jesus, Their palms were relief for every pain and suffering. Whenever either of them placed a hand upon a pulse, They would give support to the weak. The king was ill from a change in his temperament, And those two were busy devising a cure. But sharing the same profession and working together Blocked their path to successful fortune. Whatever this one said, that one rejected; Whatever this one bound, that one loosened. The day of health grew dark because of them, And the dark night of death drew near. The king had a clever vizier, Who, when he saw this rivalry from each of them, Devised a trick with wise planning, So that those two wise men were reduced to just one. When the king accepted the cure from that single physician, The vizier explained the story to him. The king said, 'O you through whom all my losses turned to gain, Where did this thought appear to you from?' He replied, 'From where God spoke to us, That if the builder of this wondrous mansion Had, by assumption, been more than one, Its state would be overturned at every moment. The basin of the sun would have fallen from the roof, And the celestial sphere would have fallen out of order. The offspring of earth would have turned to dust once more, And the dust would have risen like smoke to the heavens. All would have hastened their steps toward non-existence, Nay, they would not have emerged from non-existence at all.'
