بخش ۶۱ - حکایت پیر هشیار با مرید فراموشکار / Section 61 - The Tale of the Alert Master and the Forgetful Disciple

ساده مریدی ز جهان شسته دست
آمد و در صحبت پیری نشست
گرم نکرده به زمین جا هنوز
خاست ازان انجمن جان فروز
پیر برآشفت که تعجیل چیست
نفرت دیو از دم جبریل چیست
گفت قضا پرده کش هوش گشت
نادره چیزیم فراموش گشت
می روم این لحضه به هر راه و کوی
تا کنم آن گمشده را جست و جوی
پیر خروشید که ای بوالهوس
در دو جهان هست یکی چیز و بس
کان نه سزاوار فراموشی است
قبله گویایی و خاموشی است
گر همه آفاق در آغوش تو
باشد و آن چیز فراموش تو
غایت آگاهی تو غافل است
حاصل اوقات تو بی حاصل است
ور بود آن چیز فرا یاد تو
شاد کن خاطر ناشاد تو
گو دو جهان گشته فراموش باش
لب ز سخن شان شده خاموش باش
جامی ازین مشغله خاموش کن
هر چه نه آن چیز فراموش کن
زانکه سرانجام تو خاموشی است
وآخر کار تو فراموشی است
English translation
A simple disciple, who had washed his hands of the world, Came and sat in the company of a master. Having not yet warmed his place on the ground, He rose from that soul-enlightening assembly. The master became upset: 'What is this haste? Why is there this aversion of a demon to Gabriel's breath?' He said, 'Fate drew a veil over my awareness, And I forgot a rare thing. I am going this very moment to every road and alley, To search for that which has been lost.' The master cried out, 'O whimsical one! In both worlds there is but one thing, Which is not worthy of being forgotten. It is the focal point of speech and silence. Even if the entire horizons are in your embrace, And that thing is forgotten by you, The height of your awareness is heedlessness, And the fruit of your time is fruitless. But if that thing is in your remembrance, Rejoice your unhappy heart. Say, 'Let both worlds be forgotten!' And keep your lips closed from speaking of them.' Jami, be silent from this bustle! Forget everything that is not that One thing! For your ultimate end is silence, And the end of your work is forgetfulness.

One is that Time is a cutting sword and the other is that Indeed, part of protection from sin is not having the power to commit it.'
