English translation

An elder from Hamadan said to his son, 'O you who are all-knowing in the ways of your own affairs, You have tested yourself for a lifetime, Have you ever been an ox's beard?' The son said to him, 'O father, Tell us, who is an ox's beard?' He said, 'The one who at early dawn Steps out from the corner of his house onto the path, With this desire in his heart: 'Without any toil, I shall find a free treasure today.'' When the elder brought his speech to this point, His son said in reply, 'I Have been an ox's beard for as long as I have existed; Being an ox's beard is my constant occupation. I have no work other than being an ox's beard; I have no shame in being an ox's beard.'
