Original content

English translation

A grammarian said in the presence of the common people: 'The verb kaana is sometimes incomplete (naqis) and sometimes complete (tamm). The complete benefits from a noun/subject (ism), But it is always without a predicate/news (khabar). And that which is incomplete is khabardar (possessing a predicate/informed); Its predicate is as necessary as its noun.' A commoner shouted out: 'Hey! O scholar, how long will you speak in reverse? Why do you conversely call the ignorant/one without news complete, And call the aware/one with news incomplete? Complete is the person who is aware (has news), And incomplete is the one who has no share of news/awareness. News/awareness is the proof of consciousness, While ignorance is the proof of deficiency and deviation. In the eyes of the masters of knowledge and gnosis, How could this completeness be that deficiency?' A Sufi was sitting far away, Having severed the bond of companionship with people. He opened his lips and pierced the pearl of truth, Saying: 'What a beautiful point the grammarian made! The perfect and complete one is indeed he Who is completely immersed in the Name of the Truth (God). The Truth made him benefit from His Name, And he has no news or awareness of anything other than Him (ma siwa). And the one who remains incomplete, the Name of God Does not make him oblivious of other than Him and besides Him. His trace is not annihilated in the Name of Truth, And he has news/awareness of other than the Name of Truth.' The speakers are three, but the speech is one; No one has any doubt in this station. Everyone has sought from that speech presented to them A meaning suitable to their own state. And this disagreement which is understood Arises from the difference in understandings.
