دین پرستی کوره آتش به پیش
گرم چون آتش به کسب و کار خویش

با منافق شیوه ای در دین دو رنگ
از پی اثبات دین برداشت جنگ

آن منافق گفت باآن دین پرست
هان بیار ار حجتی داری به دست

زو ردایش را طلب کرد از نخست
در ردای خویشتن پیچید چست

در میان کوره آتش نهاد
در ردای خصم دین آتش فتاد

ماند سالم زان ردای مرد دین
هین ببین خاصیت نور یقین

کان درونی سوخت چون خاشاک و خس
وانچه بیرون بود سالم ماند و بس

English translation

A devout believer had a furnace of fire before him, As warm as fire in his work and occupation. A hypocrite, two-faced in his religious ways, Began a dispute with him to prove his faith. That hypocrite said to the devout believer: 'Come, bring whatever proof you have in hand!' He first demanded the believer's cloak from him, And quickly wrapped it in his own cloak. He placed them in the midst of the furnace of fire; The fire fell upon the cloak of the enemy of religion. The cloak of the man of religion remained safe; Behold, see the effect of the light of certainty! For that inner one burnt like weeds and chaff, And that which was on the outside remained safe and sound.
