آن موسوس بر لب دریا نشست
تا کند بهر تقرب آبدست

دید دریایی پر از ماهی و مار
چغز و خرچنگش هزار اندر هزار

هر طرف مرغان آبی در شناه
غوطه زن از قعر دریا قوت خواه

گفت دریایی که چندین جانور
گردد اندر وی به صبح و شام در

کی سزد کز وی بشویم دست و روی
شستم اکنون دست خود زین شست و شو

چشمه ای خواهم به سان زمزمی
کوته از وی دست هر نامحرمی

کانچه شد آلوده از آلودگان
فارغند از وی جگر پالودگان

English translation

That obsessive man sat on the shore of the sea To perform ablution for the sake of divine proximity. He saw a sea full of fish and snakes, Its frogs and crabs, thousands upon thousands. On every side, water birds were swimming, Diving, seeking sustenance from the depths of the sea. He said: 'A sea in which so many creatures Roam within morning and evening— How is it fitting that I wash my face and hands in it? I have now washed my hands of this washing! I desire a spring like Zamzam, With the hand of any stranger kept away from it, For whatever has been defiled by the contaminated, Those of purified hearts are free of it.'
