Original content

English translation

When the justice of Nushirvan attained perfection, His kingdom gained beauty from the adorner of justice. He wished to investigate the grief and joy of his realm, By gathering news of his land's prosperity. He made himself famous for being ill, And then spread the rumor in every city, That they should bring to his pharmacy An old brick from some ruin, For those physicians who are master of their craft Request this for his treatment. A multitude of people, gifted with wisdom, Searched for the brick village by village and city by city. Nowhere was any ruin found, No old palace or dilapidated portico, So that for the sake of that pure-natured ruler's life, They could obtain a single molded brick. They all returned empty-handed, Appearing before the king to report: 'Through the architecture of your justice in the world, There is no ruin, neither manifest nor hidden. Brick upon brick, the earth is prosperous; All traces of ruin are far from it. The owl is in distress in your kingdom, For ruins have become as rare as treasure.' When the king heard this report of prosperity, He brought his caravan of blessings to the door of gratitude. He said, 'Praise be to God that the Lord Has guided me toward justice, Has prospered the world through me, And freed the children of Adam from grief. My own frame was not in decay or disease; My purpose in requesting the brick was only this. Otherwise, no master builder can ever Make the house of the body prosperous with clay and brick.'
