فربهی از خوان سخن پروری
شاعریش کرده لقب لاغری

گفت به نظم خوش و شعر فصیح
بهر یکی خواجه فربه مدیح

خواجه مسکین چو مدیحش شنید
بوی توقع به مشامش رسید

کرد ازان نامه پر رنگ و ریو
خاطر او رم چو ز لاحول دیو

خاست ازان انجمن پر گزند
کرد توجه سوی قصر بند

چون نفس از فربهیش گشت تنگ
در رهش افتاد زمانی درنگ

گفت بدو لاغری مدح سنج
فربهیت می دهد ای خواجه رنج

خواجه ازان نکته چو گل بر شکفت
با دل صد پاره بخندید و گفت

رنج همه گرچه ز تن پروریست
رنج من اکنون همه از لاغریست

لاغری از فربهیم دست برد
در کف صد محنت و رنجم سپرد

جان تو جامی به درون لاغر است
حرص تو از جان تو فربه تر است

عمر گرانمایه به سر می بری
غافل ازین فربهی و لاغری

English translation

Through abundance from the table of speech-nurturing, A poet was nicknamed 'Thinness' (Lagheri). He composed, in sweet rhythm and eloquent verse, A eulogy for a certain fat master. When the poor master heard his praise, The scent of expectation reached his nostrils. From that letter full of flattery and deceit, His heart fled, like a demon from 'Lahawl'. He rose from that assembly full of nuisance, And set off toward his fortified castle. When his breath grew tight due to his fatness, He was forced to stop and rest on the path. The thin poet, who measured praise, said to him: 'O master, your fatness is causing you distress!' The master bloomed like a flower at that witty remark; He laughed with a broken heart and said: 'Though the suffering of others is from body-pampering, All of my suffering right now is from Thinness! Thinness has snatched away my fatness (comfort), And delivered me into the hands of a hundred pains and trials.' O Jami! Your soul is thin within, But your greed is fatter than your soul. You spend your precious lifetime, Utterly heedless of this true fatness and thinness.
