بخش ۲۶ - حکایت آن ماهیان که گوهر حیات در جستجوی دریا باختند و تا به خشکی نیفتادند دریا را نشناختند / Section 26 - The Tale of Those Fishes Who Lost the Jewel of Life in Search of the Sea and Did Not Recognize the Sea Until They Fell Onto the Dry Land

Original content

English translation

A frog had its homeland on the shore of the sea, Always speaking of the sea. Day and night it told the story of the sea, And pierced the jewel of praise for the sea. It would say, 'We have emerged from the sea, And because of it we have come into this speech and hearing. From it, the heart found the jewel of wisdom, From it, the body found the hand of capability. Wherever I look, it is all the sea, Whichever way I pass, it is all the sea.' A few fish arrived at that place, And there they heard that story from it. Love for the sea surged from their hearts, And the fire of yearning struck their souls. From head to toe they became all feet, And in their search they became traversers of stages. They set off with the running and striving of need, Seeking the sea through every descent and ascent. Sometimes they settled in the deep like a shell, Sometimes like straw they rose to the shore. But no sign of the sea was found by name, And they took steps in hopelessness. By chance, a fisherman laid a net, And their path fell across the net's passage. Altogether, that gathering fell into the net, And resigned themselves to giving up their souls. The fisherman took them to the shore, And made their home on the dry land. A few of them struggled and moved, Crawlingly, they made their way back to the sea. Half-dead, when they reached the sea, They drank the cup of their desire in the sea. Their knowledge and insight was revealed to them, Realizing what it was that the frog had been describing. Alive, they rested in the sea of witnessing, And they were drowned in it as long as they existed.
