English translation

O you who open your eyes to every stranger, In your heart there is no trace of Ghayrat. You claim to possess Ghayrat, Yet you are entirely devoid of its true meaning. What is this combination of Ghayrat and looking at strangers? What is this look at others while claiming to have awareness of the Beloved? Seeing others is far from Ghayrat; He who looks at others is deluded in both worlds. An eye that is worthy of beholding the King Should not open its gaze to the face of any other. The love of the King has come, and Ghayrat is the herald; How fitting it is for the herald, with a hundred shouts and clamors, To turn away strangers from the King's door And not permit any other into His sanctuary. The sanctuary of the King is the sanctuary of your heart; The King is eternally resident within your heart. Do not let other than the King into the sanctuary; Do not grant the intimacy of the King to a beggar. Seek the King, behold the King, worship the King! Wash your hands of whatever is not the King. Hold fast to the hem of the King's robe; Keep your heart joyful with the brand of His sorrow. Expel everything other than Him from your heart; Increase the brand of yearning for Him in your heart. Do not harbor that desire like the lustful, Seeking to turn away the face of His love from other people. The grace of His love, which is universal to the world— Restricting it to yourself is not within the capacity of any novice. Iblis desired that that grace of generosity Be snatched away from Adam through deception. He could not sever that grace from Adam, But because of that attempt, he suffered what he suffered. By that method full of his own laments, He made the curse a collar around his own neck. This much Ghayrat is sufficient from you: that in your heart, You sever your affection from everything that is not Him, Bind the thread of love to Him, And accept no other associate with Him. Do not associate a hundred others with Him, Practicing love-making with every instrument. At times being with a moon-like beauty, Pleased with her affection; At times pitching your tent at the King's gate, Reaching the heart's hand to the waist of high status; At times turning the face of hope toward the Emir, Making the blackened face white out of greed; At times making your place in the minister's palace, So that you may receive a reward from his generosity. All of these are the ways of infidelity, It is bringing associates to God. There is no permission given to associate anyone with Him, As is the decree: 'Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him.' Wash the filth of association clean from your heart; Become pure, and then turn your face toward the Pure One. Do not bring a contaminated heart to that place, For pure companionship is found only by the pure. A heart that does not flutter in blood out of grief for Him, How could it be worthy of being a bird in His sanctuary's court? A soul that does not rise to the lips from yearning and need, Tell me, how can it whisper secrets to His lips? An eye that you do not make weep tears of blood from the heart Does not deserve to behold His face. Wash your eyes with blood moment by moment, And only then contemplate seeking to behold Him. He who did not weep from the affliction of separation, How can he look upon the face of the Beloved? No treasure is pleasant if you suffer no pain; Suffer pain, if you seek the treasure of happiness.
