بخش ۸۸ - عقد بیست و هفتم در اخلاص که پای همت بر سر هوا نهادن است و گردن ارادت از ربقه ریا گشادن / Section 88 - The Twenty-Seventh Knot: On Sincerity (Ikhlas), Which is Placing the Foot of Resolve Upon the Head of Desire and Releasing the Neck of Devotion from the Yoke of Hypocrisy

Original content

English translation

O you who have grown by yourself like a blade of grass, whose movement is caused by the wind of desire. How long will you stir from the wind of desire? Since desire is not there, how pleasant it is to rest! Moving due to desire is the habit of weed; movement must be solely for the sake of God, and that is all. When desire comes, lessen your movement; like a mountain, plant your foot firmly on the ground. And if God calls you, run with all your might, step upon desire, and enter the path. Pull your net out of this bloodthirsty valley; withdraw your skirt from the company of others. Turn your face toward the Qiblah of single-mindedness; leave creation behind and seek God. How long will you take away the splendor of religion, worshipping the Truth merely for the sake of creation? When no one's eyes are turned toward you, you become a grain-pecking bird at the time of prayer. You place your forehead for prostration in such a way, as a bird brings its head to the ground for a grain. The time of prostration, which is toward the House, lasts only as long as the pecking of a single grain. Neither did you have any dignity in that prostration, nor did you have awareness and stability in your heart. But if someone like yourself is present with you, who is observing you in that prostration, Your head, knowing prostration, remains down for a long time, like the head of an ox of a mill in straw. Prostration for other than God is polytheism; polytheism is filth upon the face of the soul. Seek a droplet from the spring of sincerity, and wash that filth from the face of your soul. What is sincerity? Tearing the heart away from self-interest, and casting one's affairs upon God. Purifying the coin of the heart from all impurities, and turning one's gold-like face toward deliverance. Not giving one's heart to the means of the world, nor setting one's eyes upon the houris of paradise. Making one single Qiblah out of both worlds, and turning away from every illusion and doubt. If you find your way to such sincerity, you will be among the ranks of the elite men. The sermon of proximity will be in your name, and the draught of union will be to your taste. Your play will become earnest, your errors correct; your jest will be the source of benevolence and spiritual reward. You will become an intimate of the Kaaba of prosperity, and an intimate of the veil of majesty.
