English translation

O you who have mortgaged your tongue to falsehood, Slander has taken away the luster of your speech! This is not worthy of any insightful person, That your tongue is one way and your heart is another. How long will you remain distant from the path of truthfulness and purity? How long will you have a pitch-black heart and a camphor-white face? Turn your face toward the principle of excellence (Ihsan), Make your outer and inner selves identical. Be single-hearted, single-minded, and single-faced, And turn aside from the two-faced people of the world. From crookedness arises whatever flaw there is; 'Truthfulness is salvation' is a beautiful proverb. Seek truth, look at truth, choose truth; Speak truth, hear truth, sit in truth. If the arrow goes straight, it hits the target; But if it goes crooked, it misses the target. Go and look at the letters of the alphabet, How the 'Alef' is superior to all. Go, set aside the Abjad board, For Alef comes first in any counting. If a seeker of wisdom searches for the cause, There is no cause for it other than straightness. Go straight so that you may be a leader, And be superior to all in the reckoning. Truthfulness is the elixir of the copper of your existence, It is the elevator of your lowly state. The effect of falsehood is non-existence (being a nobody); If you reach the rank of being somebody, you reach it through truthfulness. The false dawn breathes from falsehood; Its light lasts but a breath or two, and that is all. Since the true dawn is fond of truthfulness, The banner of its light is raised high because of it. If your heart gives you a fondness for truth, It will grant you loftiness over all creation. But if it raises a banner of falsehood, Its banner will fall in a single moment. Bring forth truthfulness so that you may become a truthful one (Siddiq), And become a pearl in the ocean of verification (Tahqiq). Although the truthful one was the successor of the Prophet, He holds honor over other classes of people. If you desire proof for this principle, You had better seek its proof from the Quran. The truthful one is he whose heart becomes pure, And whose every claim becomes fairness. His promise ends in fulfillment, And his heart finds peace from deceit in purity. Inwardly, he sows the seed of trustworthiness, And outwardly, he uproots the thorn of betrayal. The root of hypocrisy is torn from his clay, And the branch of harmony sprouts from his heart. Neither is there the color of affectation in him, Nor the scent of boastfulness in him. Hold fast to the skirt of the truthful ones' aspiration, And die on the path of serving the truthful ones. Perhaps upon your soul, free from defect, Light will pour from the purity of their hearts. The copper of your heart will turn to gold thereby, And your worthless stone will become a jewel.
