بخش ۵۶ - تنگ شدن کار بر سلامان از ملالت بسیار شاه و حکیم را گذاشتن و با ابسال راه گریز برداشتن / Section 56 - Things Becoming Difficult for Salaman Due to Excessive Reproach, Leaving the King and the Sage, and Taking the Path of Flight with Absal

Original content

English translation

Wherever a soul is entangled in love, It is hardship upon hardship and grief upon grief. Especially a love where reproach becomes its companion, And the counsel of advisors grows excessive. By reproach, the work of love becomes arduous, And by the reproacher, the anxiety of love increases. Without reproach, love is the nurturing of the soul; When reproach becomes its partner, it is the drinking of blood. When Salaman heard those reproaches, His sweet soul reached his lips from grief. It did not uproot the love of Absal from within him, But it cast a tumult into his heart. The sweet watering-place of his union turned bitter, And the crescent of the month of his joy reached its end. No breath escaped from him anywhere Without a mourning falling upon him from reproach. His soul was wounded by the arrow of reproach, And the sorrow in his heart grew even greater. A man's soul wastes away under reproach; How could patience be possible for him? One can endure a single wound from a sharp sword, But when they strike repeatedly, what choice is there but flight? For days, he made planning his pursuit; Many times, he contemplated his situation. With a thousand thoughts in planning the deed, His affair finally settled upon flight. He cleared his mind of his homeland And prepared a litter for the journey. When night fell, he secretly bound the litter And sat tightly with Absal inside it. Both Salaman was beautiful, and Absal was lovely— The litter held both like a double-kerneled almond. When traveling, they went with heads on each other's shoulders; When sleeping, they lay in each other's embrace. Both of them side by side, joined together, The litter was narrow for that journey, but not their hearts. When the beloved is in one's embrace without rivals, The tighter the house, the better it is. Indeed, wherever the beloved pauses, How can it ever feel cramped for the weary lover?
