Original content

English translation

O You whose manifestation and radiance are manifest, Who is there but You in the souls and the horizons? There is nothing in existence other than You; You are the midmorning sun, and all else is shadow. What is 'fay' in Persian? 'Shadow'; A shadow draws its very essence from light. In the context of instruction, The wise philosopher has designated the shadow as 'the second light.' When light descends from its absolute purity, They name it 'fay' or 'shadow' ( ظل ). Both worlds are a shadow, and You are the light; You are the source of manifestation for the shadow. This and that are the form, and You are the meaning; No form exists without You. Remove the veil of form from the midst, Do not leave me bound by form any longer. Rather, beyond both form and meaning, Show Your face so that the claim of separate existence may end. What is this claim? The illusion of 'I' and 'we,' The seeing of others and the consideration of anything besides You. Erase the words 'we' and 'I' from my heart, Efface the 'other' and let You be everything! Indeed, what other and which other is here? The journey here is both from You and toward You. In the beginning, the journey of spiritual men is from You; In the end, the ultimate destination is toward You. You are the beginning of the path and the end as well— Nay, You are the journey, the path, and the traveler too!
