English translation

From separation, the soul of the world has reached its end; show mercy, O Prophet of God, show mercy! Are you not, after all, a mercy to the worlds? Why do you sit unconcerned with the deprived? O well-watered tulip, rise from the dust! Like a narcissus, how long will you sleep? Wake up from your sleep! Bring your head out from the Yemeni cloak, for your face is the morning of life. Turn the night of our sorrow into day; by your face, make our day auspicious. Clothe your body in amber-scented garments; bind upon your head a camphor-white turban. Let down your locks from your head; cast a shadow on the feet of the graceful cypress. Put on your feet the Ta'if leather sandals; make their straps from the thread of our souls. A world of people have made their eyes a carpet for your path; like a carpet of fortune, they desire to kiss your feet. Step out from your chamber into the courtyard of the Sanctuary; set your foot upon the crown of the heads of those who kiss the dust of your path. Give a hand to those who have fallen, and offer comfort to the lovers. Although we are drowned in the ocean of sin, we lie dry-lipped upon the dust of the path. You are the cloud of mercy; it is best if sometimes you cast a glance upon the state of the dry-lipped. How pleasant if we could arrive towards you from the dust of the road, and draw the dust of your street into our eyes. In the mosque, we would perform prostrations of gratitude; we would make our souls moths around your lamp. We walked boldly around your mausoleum, with hearts pierced like a lattice window. With tears from the cloud of our sleepless eyes, we washed the courtyard of the threshold of your mausoleum. Sometimes we swept the dust from that courtyard; sometimes we gathered thorns and debris from it. With that dust, we gave light to the darkness of our eyes; and with this debris, we placed a salve upon the wound of our hearts. We took our way towards your pulpit; with our faces, we covered its base in gold. In your prayer niche, we sought our desire through prostration; we washed the place where your feet trod with the blood of our eyes. At the foot of every pillar, we stood upright; we requested the station of the truthful. With a happy heart from the scar of yearning for you, we kindled fire from our hearts into every lamp. Now, if the body is not the dust of that sanctuary, praise be to God that the soul resides there. We are helpless because of our self-willed soul; see how helpless we are, and forgive. If there is no helping hand like your grace, no task can be accomplished by our hands. Destiny casts us off the path; for God's sake, plead for us before God! That He may first grant us a life of certainty, and then give steadfastness in the affairs of faith. When the dread of the Day of Resurrection arises, may He not spill our honor into the fire. May He, despite all our misguidance, grant you permission to intercede for us. When you turn your face with your head bowed like a polo mallet, say 'my community' in the arena of intercession. Through your beautiful concern, may Jami's work reach completion as a beneficiary of others.
