سبحة الابرار / Subhat al-Abrar (The Rosary of the Pious)

سبحة الابرار / Subhat al-Abrar (The Rosary of the Pious)

Subhat al-Abrar is the fourth masnavi of Jami's Haft Awrang. Composed on the model of Nizami's Makhzan al-Asrar, it is a didactic Sufi poem structured as a string of forty beads or knots (عقد / iqd). Each knot expounds a single spiritual station or ethical theme — such as asceticism (زهد / zuhd), spiritual poverty (فقر / faqr), and hope (رجا / raja) — and is typically followed by illustrative anecdotes.

This work is the direct literary container for its numbered sections (بخش), including the Eleventh Knot on Asceticism (Section 40), the Supplication on Poverty (Section 42), the Twelfth Knot on Poverty (Section 43), and the Sixteenth Knot on Hope (Section 55). Understanding that these sections belong to one continuous rosary of forty knots is prerequisite to reading any individual knot in its proper structural place.
