سبحةالابرار / Subhat al-Abrar (The Rosary of the Pious)

سبحةالابرار / Subhat al-Abrar (The Rosary of the Pious)

The fourth masnavi of Jami's Haft Awrang, composed in ramal meter in imitation of Nizami's Makhzan al-Asrar. It is organized as a string of chapters — each called an عقد (a bead of the rosary) — on ethical and mystical themes such as gratitude, patience, sincerity, generosity, contentment, humility, forbearance, and justice.

Each chapter characteristically pairs a discourse on a virtue or spiritual station with a مناجات (supplication) that marks the transition from one state to the next, followed by an illustrative story. The numbered transitioning-supplication sections gathered here — for example the passage from gratitude and thankfulness to fear and dread — belong specifically to this work, not to Haft Awrang as a whole, which collects seven independent masnavis.
