Subhat al-Abrar (The Rosary of the Pious)

Subhat al-Abrar (سبحة الابرار) is the fourth of the seven masnavis that make up Jami's Haft Awrang. It is a didactic and mystical poem written in the rhythmic model of Nizami's Makhzan al-Asrar.

The work is organized into a sequence of thematic chapters (each called an عقد, a 'knot' of the rosary) on virtues and spiritual states — gratitude, fear, hope, trust, contentment, humility, forbearance, and more. Nearly every chapter closes with a مناجات (supplication) in which the poet turns from the discussion of the station to a direct, first-person plea addressed to God.

The numbered supplication sections drawn from this work — for example Section 51 (gratitude to fear), Section 54 (fear to hope), Section 57 (pleading and trust), Section 63 (contentment to love), and later sections through Section 126 — are all component pieces of Subhat al-Abrar, and should be grouped under this work rather than attached directly to the whole Haft Awr...
