Tuhfat al-Ahrar (The Gift of the Noble Ones)

Tuhfat al-Ahrar is the third of the seven masnavi poems that make up Jami's Haft Awrang. Composed in the tradition of Nizami's Makhzan al-Asrar and Amir Khusraw's Matla al-Anwar, it is a didactic and mystical masnavi organized into twenty discourses (maqalat), each devoted to an ethical or Sufi theme and typically followed by an illustrative tale. Its subjects include faith, devotion, contemplation, silence, generosity, love, and the counsel Jami addresses to his young son Ziya al-Din Yusuf. This node groups the individual sections (بخش) of Tuhfat al-Ahrar as a distinct work beneath the larger Haft Awrang collection, so that a section is reached through its own masnavi rather than directly under the seven-work collection.
