یوسف و زلیخا / Yusof o Zoleykha (Jami)

یوسف و زلیخا (Yusof o Zoleykha) is the fifth masnavi within Jami's collection Haft Awrang. It is a long narrative poem that retells the Quranic and Biblical story of Joseph (Yusof) and Zulaykha as a Sufi allegory of the soul's ascent from earthly passion to purified, divine love. The poem is organized into numbered sections (بخش) that follow Zulaykha through infatuation, separation, repentance, blindness and its cure, marriage, and final spiritual union. Individual sections — such as Section 69 on Zulaykha's love overcoming Joseph and her building a house of worship for him — are constituent parts of this single work and should sit under it, rather than directly under the whole seven-poem Haft Awrang collection.
