یوسف و زلیخا / Yusof o Zoleykha (Jami's masnavi)

Yusof o Zoleykha

Yusof o Zoleykha (یوسف و زلیخا) is one of the seven masnavis that make up Jami's Haft Awrang. It is a single long narrative poem retelling the Quranic and Biblical story of Joseph (Yusof) and Zulaykha (Zoleykha): Joseph's beauty and dreams, his betrayal by his brothers and sale into Egypt, Zulaykha's overwhelming love and its trials, Joseph's imprisonment and interpretation of dreams, his release and rise to power beside the King, and the lovers' eventual reunion — read throughout as a Sufi allegory of the soul's longing for divine Beauty.

The work is organized into numbered sections (بخش). Individual sections — such as Section 63 (Joseph leaving prison and being honored by the King) and the surrounding Sections 53–71 — are components of this one masnavi rather than independent items of the whole Haft Awrang collection. This node supplies the missing work-level container between the Haft Awrang collection and its constituent sections.
