یوسف و زلیخا / Yusof o Zoleykha (Joseph and Zulaikha) — Jami's Masnavi

Yusof o Zoleykha

Yusof o Zoleykha is the fifth of the seven narrative masnavis that make up Jami's Haft Awrang. It retells the Quranic and Biblical story of the prophet Joseph (Yusuf) and the Egyptian noblewoman Zulaikha, reworking it as a Sufi allegory in which Zulaikha's earthly passion for Joseph's beauty is gradually purified into love of divine Beauty.

The poem is organized into numbered sections (بخش) that follow a single continuous arc: Zulaikha's lineage and beauty, her prophetic dreams of Joseph, her journey and marriage into Egypt, the trials of her love, and its final transformation. Each section presupposes this shared narrative and allegorical frame, so the individual بخش nodes (for example, the section on Zulaikha's qualities and lineage) belong under this work rather than directly under the whole Haft Awrang collection, which also contains six other, unrelated masnavis.
