یوسف و زلیخا / Yusof o Zoleykha

یوسف و زلیخا / Yusof o Zoleykha

The fifth masnavi of Jami's Haft Awrang, a long narrative poem in rhyming couplets that retells the story of the prophet Joseph (Yusof) and Zulaykha, wife of the Egyptian noble. Jami reworks the Quranic and earlier Persian versions into a Sufi allegory: Zulaykha's consuming passion for Joseph's beauty figures the soul's longing for divine Beauty, while Joseph's chastity figures fidelity to God.

The work is divided into numbered sections (بخش), each narrating one episode of the tale. Sections such as Zulaykha pleading in person and Joseph excusing himself belong to this masnavi and share it as their immediate literary container within the larger Haft Awrang collection.
