یوسف و زلیخا / Yusuf and Zoleykha (Jami)

Yusuf va Zoleykha (یوسف و زلیخا) is the fifth of the seven masnavis that make up Jami's Haft Awrang. It is a long narrative poem that retells the Quranic and Biblical story of Yusuf (Joseph) and Zoleykha as a Sufi allegory of divine love, in which Zoleykha's earthly passion for Yusuf is gradually purified into longing for the ultimate Beloved. The work opens with metaphysical prologues on Beauty (jamal) and Love (ishq) as birds flown from the nest of Unity onto the branches of Multiplicity, and it is divided into numbered sections (بخش) that carry the narrative forward. This work node groups the individual sections of the poem under the larger Haft Awrang collection.
