یوسف و زلیخا / Yusuf and Zulaikha (Jami)

Yusuf and Zulaikha (یوسف و زلیخا) is the fifth of the seven masnavi poems that make up Jami's Haft Awrang. It is a narrative poem retelling the story of the prophet Joseph (Yusuf) and Zulaikha, the wife of the Egyptian nobleman Potiphar. Jami reworks the Quranic and Biblical account into a Sufi allegory in which Zulaikha's consuming passion for Joseph's beauty figures the soul's longing for divine Beauty. The work is divided into numbered sections (بخش) that unfold the progress of this love — Zulaikha's dreams, her marriage, her torment, and her confidants' attempts to read her hidden condition.
