یوسف و زلیخا / Yusuf and Zulaykha (fifth masnavi of Haft Awrang)

یوسف و زلیخا / Yusuf and Zulaykha

Yusuf and Zulaykha (یوسف و زلیخا) is the fifth of the seven masnavi poems that make up Jami's Haft Awrang. It is a long narrative poem that retells the story of the prophet Joseph and Zulaykha, wife of the Egyptian Aziz, shaping their love as a Sufi allegory in which Zulaykha's longing for Joseph's beauty figures the soul's yearning for divine Beauty.

The poem is divided into numbered sections (بخش) that carry the story forward in sequence: from Zulaykha's first visionary love, through her stratagems and pleas, to separation, imprisonment, and eventual union. Individual sections such as Section 51 (Zulaykha summoning Joseph to the house she has prepared) are episodes within this larger work and presuppose it as their narrative and thematic container.
