یوسف و زلیخا / Yusuf and Zulaykha (fifth masnavi of Jami's Haft Awrang)

یوسف و زلیخا (Yusuf and Zulaykha) is the fifth of the seven masnavis that make up Jami's Haft Awrang. Written in rhyming couplets, it retells the love story of Zulaykha and the prophet Joseph, drawing on the Quranic account and on Sufi allegory in which earthly passion becomes a ladder toward divine love. The poem unfolds across many numbered sections (بخش) that follow Joseph from the well and the slave market, through his life in the house of the Aziz, Zulaykha's longing, the episode of temptation, his imprisonment and vindication, and his eventual rise in Egypt. Each numbered section node in this course (for example Section 34, 40, 47, 51, 53, 54, 57, 58, 61) is a constituent part of this single work rather than an independent poem, and belongs under this masnavi rather than directly under the whole Haft Awrang collection.
