یوسف و زلیخا / Yusuf and Zulaykha (Jami's Masnavi within Haft Awrang)

Yusuf and Zulaykha

یوسف و زلیخا (Yusuf and Zulaykha) is the fifth of the seven masnavis that together form Jami's Haft Awrang. It is a long narrative poem that retells the Quranic and Biblical story of the prophet Joseph (Yusuf) and Zulaykha, wife of the Aziz of Egypt, reworked as a Sufi allegory of the soul's journey toward divine love and beauty.

The work is organized into numbered sections (بخش), each narrating one episode of the tale — for example Zulaykha's dreams of Joseph, her purchase of him, her longing, temptation, and separation, and their eventual reconciliation. Each of these section-poems is a reading unit of this single work, and they belong under this masnavi rather than directly under the whole Haft Awrang collection.
