یوسف و زلیخا / Yusuf and Zulaykha (Jami's masnavi)

Yusuf and Zulaykha

یوسف و زلیخا (Yusuf and Zulaykha) is the fifth of the seven masnavi poems that together make up Jami's Haft Awrang. It retells the story of the prophet Joseph and his relationship with Zulaykha as a Sufi allegory in which earthly love becomes a mirror for the soul's longing toward divine beauty.

The poem is internally organized into numbered بخش (sections) that follow the narrative in order — Joseph's dream, the growth of his brothers' envy, their plot, the casting into the well, the rescue by the caravan, the events in Egypt with Zulaykha, and so on. These individual sections are the constituent parts of this single work and should be grouped under it, rather than attached directly to the whole Haft Awrang collection.
